Joel Makin & Tesni Murphy Lead the Karakal Charge at the 2025 British Nationals

The countdown is on for one of the biggest events in British squash – the 2025 British National Squash Championships, taking place at the prestigious St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club, Weybridge (26–30 August). Leading the lineup are two of Karakal’s finest athletes, Joel Makin and Tesni Murphy, both determined to add to their impressive legacies.

World No.4 and two-time British Nationals Champion, Joel Makin, returns as the men’s top seed. The Karakal-sponsored star lifted the trophy last year after a thrilling 85-minute victory over former World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy – a performance that highlighted his renowned grit, fitness, and determination.

This year, Joel begins his campaign against a qualifier before a potential semi-final test against young talent Jonah Bryant. With the ElShorbagy brothers lurking in the latter stages, the Welshman faces a tough road to defending his crown – but few are better prepared for battle.

In the women’s draw, Tesni Murphy, World No.21 and a two-time British Nationals Champion, will be eyeing her third title. Seeded to potentially meet World No.9 Georgina Kennedy in the final, Murphy has the experience and pedigree to mount a serious challenge.

The Welsh No.1 opens her campaign with a round-one clash before a possible semi-final test against Lucy Turmel. Having reached the final here in 2023 – before injury forced her to withdraw – Tesni will be more determined than ever to go all the way this year.

Joining Joel and Tesni in Weybridge are fellow Karakal players Emyr Evans of Wales plus Noah Meredith and Michael Mattimore of England.

Emyr, a Welsh international, competes in the main draw and will be looking to make his mark against some of Britain’s finest. Known for his athleticism and work rate, he is more than capable of springing surprises and making a deep run.

Meanwhile, rising English talent Noah Meredith and Michael Mattimore takes their places in the qualifying event, aiming to earn spots in the main draw. For these players the Nationals are a fantastic opportunity to test themselves on one of the sport’s biggest domestic stages – and to continue their exciting development.

From our established champions to the rising stars, Karakal players will be at the heart of the action in Weybridge. Joel, Tesni, Emyr, Noah and Michael all embody Karakal’s values of strength, determination, and world-class performance.

As the 2025 British Nationals get underway, all eyes will be on these players to see if they can add new chapters to their stories of success.
