karakal Alison Thomson

Karakal’s Alison “Ally” Thomson is a Scottish international, six-time PSA Tour title winner and former Scottish National Champion, with a career-high world ranking of No. 65.

Ally made her PSA Tour debut in 2014 and first broke into the world’s top 100 in 2015, following quarter-final appearances at the Paderborn Open and Open International des Volcans, alongside a semi-final finish at the Tournoi International du Val de Marne.

Further quarter-final and semi-final appearances established her on the international circuit, before she reached her first PSA final at the Cronimet Swedish Squash Open in 2019. Four semi-final finishes in her next six events underlined her growing confidence.

The 2021 season proved a breakthrough year. Ally reached at least the quarter-finals in all 13 events she contested, including four finals. After runner-up finishes at the NM Academy and TWC Squash Squared Opens, she secured her maiden PSA title at the Gibraltar Open, quickly following it with a second victory at the Exeter Golf and Country Club Open.

After an injury setback in 2022, Ally returned to the world’s top 100 in February 2023. That same month brought a particularly special achievement: her first Scottish National Championship title. Playing at Newlands in Glasgow, she defeated five-time champion Senga Macfie 3–0, following in the footsteps of her father, Alan Thomson, who won the men’s national title in 1985.

Further success followed at the UWE Bristol Open and David Lloyd Purley Open in 2023. In April 2024, Ally added her fifth PSA title at the Bress Breda Squash Open in the Netherlands, overcoming home favourite Tessa ter Sluis in a closely fought five-game final.

Her latest triumph came on 11 October 2026 at the Albufeira PSA Cidade Europeia Desporto in Portugal. Seeded second, Ally defeated top seed Laura Silva of Brazil 3–1 (11–9, 11–6, 6–11, 11–7) in the final to secure her sixth PSA Tour title.
