Karakal Profile, Alison Thomson
Karakal’s Alison Thomson has been in the top 100 World Squash Rankings since 2015, and has been a consistent performer on the PSA World Tour.
Ally made her debut on the PSA Tour in 2014, and after reaching the last eight of the Paderborn Open, Open International des Volcan and the last four at the Tournoi International du Val de Marne, she hit the top 100 in the World.
Her good form continued in 2016, with further last eight results at the Irish Squash Open, Nash Cup and Nicola Wealth Open.
Semi final appearances followed in 2017 at the Christchurch Vets Ipswich Open and the Jersey Squash Classic, and again at the Ipswich Open in 2018.
In 2019 Ally made her first PSA Tour final at the Cronimet Swedish Squash Open. That was followed by semi-final results at four of her next six events, the Aspin Cup, JC Women’s Open, Val de Marne and the Open International des Volcans. She also recorded another quarter-final finish during the Covid affected 2020 season.
Returning to the Tour in 2021, the Scot made at least the last eight of all 13 events she played in, including no fewer than four finals. Finishing runner-up at the NM Academy and TWC Squash Squared Opens only seemed to fuel Ally's desire for success, and it was not long before she claimed her maiden PSA Tour crown at the Gibraltar Open. This milestone was quickly followed up at the Exeter Golf and Country Club Open where she claimed her second PSA title.
The proudest moment of her career so far came in February 2023 when she claimed the Scottish National Championships title at the Newlands Lawn Tennis Club in Glasgow, defeating 5th seed Senga Macfie with an equally emphatic 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-6) victory. A feat that has been followed up by her third title at the University of West of England Bristol Open.
